A man who contaminated sweets with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepchild alerted the police about his concerns.
She explained the defendant proceeded to play the "treat game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"The police had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The prosecutor said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.
She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five children.
